a renewed mind even when…
So… my wallet got stolen. And in response to that, I did feel overwhelmed, anxious, and frustrated. everything that I should feel, right? Yes, because it is okay to feel our feelings EVEN as believers. But, we must not stay there too long. Why? because God tells us to “ take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” ( 2 Corinthians 10:5). In doing so, we have the power to silence the thoughts that sometimes try to have power over us; in how we think, feel, and respond. A renewed mind requires daily effort, pausing, and practice, but it is ultimately rooted in allowing the Spirit to lead you, rather than your flesh.
In Romans 12, Paul says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
A renewed mind allows us to focus on the present, thankfulness, and truth. While the world, our flesh, and enemies tell us to act in fear, worry, vengeance, and all things that lead us away from Him. When we stay near to God, even in those moments that try to push us away, we really are saying that we trust and have faith in Him who is bigger than whatever comes our way. Stay with Him!
