complaining.

It’s only natural that in this world we’re faced with things that cause us to complain. Someone isn’t doing what we needed them to do, others are not showing up as they should, and life is just life sometimes.

What I’ve been realizing throughout this season is when I take my eyes off of those things and people and focus more on the Lord, everything seems minuscule. When I’m focused on those problems, they consume me, and I end up trying to fix them in my own strength.  I’m practicing this daily right now, and it’s hard, but I’m engraving in my mind that complaining is not pleasing to the Lord. I feel as though it’s stirring up my flesh to rebel; however, I have a willingness to change.

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

In Luke 10:38-42 There’s a story about two women, one who is resting in God and the other who complains.

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Mary’s eyes were focused on Jesus, while Martha was focused on complaining about what Mary wasn’t doing. So.. which one are you?
